Black A Memoir
"The pain passes down through generations until someone decides to feel it"
My Story
I like the word "mental" for it is an element that makes the story rich and essence. I grew to like that word, even more, when I was diagnosed with Alexithymia, clinical depression, and severe anxiety. I was born in Cambodia, 1994, named Kyle Kao. For more than 20 years, I have hated myself and wanted to wipe out my existence. And I think I accomplished that with this memoir. Now, every day to me is a gift.
The Real Story
July 15th 2020
Black, tells the story of a boy who was born in post-civil war Cambodia, one among millions of untold stories from social stigma and hereditary trauma. He picks a pen and begins to revisit his existence, from a childhood that he never had, the trauma that feels so good to leave behind, the humiliation and love that convolute into one, and a boy who was in the middle of it all.
